Credit Score

Question by friendly_apostle: How many open lines of credit is to many before it affects your credit?
Just read somewhere that if you have too many lines of credit open it could lower your credit score- Im including all credit cards, loans, mortgages, anything like that as a line of credit. How many can you have before you cant get anymore & it starts to lower your score.

It’s not the number of accounts you have; it’s how long they’ve been open, how much of your available credit you use from month to month (you shouldn’t exceed 30% on any one revolving credit card,) and your payment history that affect your score.

What do you think? Answer below!

It depends on your income. There will come a point when lenders will look at all the credit you have out and determine that you couldn’t handle anymore with your current income and you’ll be denied. Where that point comes in is determined by the lenders, since each one has a different criteria.

    You are confused.

It’s the amount of the lines of credit.

You could have 1000 credit lines with $ 1000.00 each and you could have just 2 lines with $ 1,000,000.00 each.

The second person will have a lower credit score than you.

The ideal “mix” is to have a mortgage, one or two installment loans, and no more then 5 credit cards (3 Master/Visa, 2 Gas/Store cards).

Do not allow the cards to have a large credit limit, that is what will hurt you.
